Island Miniature Schnauzers

We at Island Miniature Schnauzers enjoy sharing our home and life with our Miniature Schnauzers, fondly known as the “Doggang”.  Our dogs have their own room, known as the “Doggang Room” which is furnished with a couch, doggie beds, water bowls, dog bones and a radio.  They have  large outside exercise areas and have the pleasure of walking with us up in our bush which consists of 7 acres of walking trails.  We have been involved with Miniature Schnauzers for over ten years.

Our Miniature Schnauzers are lush coated and rare-coloured registered CKC and AKC dogs.   Our puppies have natural tails and ears; have received their 8-week vaccination, worming, micro chipping, Bile Acid tested , CKC  registered and come with a one-year health guarantee.

We share the miracle of birth with each of our females.  We ensure that each of our new born puppies immediately find their first sip of warm colostrum milk and that they stay warm as their Mother prepares for the delivery of a new puppy. 

All our puppies are CKC registered and for our US customers we additionaly register their puppy with the AKC.   Our puppies come with a one-year health guarantee.

Choosing your puppy via the internet and our telephone conversations is extremely satisfactory as we focus on your puppy expectations and life style assisting us in your final puppy decision.    We ship our puppies throughout Canada and the USA using pet cargo services via the main airlines.  Shipping is extra and prices vary depending upon the final location.

Breed History

The Schnauzer breed originated in Germany in the early 15th century.  The German word Scnauze means muzzle, describing the breed’s distinguishing bushy beard.   Three distinct sizes evolved from breeding programs – Giant, Standard and Miniature.

The Miniature Schnauzer is the newest of the three size categories, evolving as its own breed during the late 18^th century.   Several small breeds were utilized to downsize the well-established Standard Schnauzer breed to create the Miniature Schnauzer.

The crossing of smaller breeds, such as the Affenpinscher and Miniature Pinscher created the Miniature Schnauzer.  The utilization of these smaller breeds, presented a varied pallet of coat colours such as chocolate, white, and parti (patches of any size of colour on white).

Temperament

Miniature Schnauzers are known for their playfulness, child-like personality, intelligence, humor, friendliness and totally family devotion.  They are extremely loyal and protective to their owner/families and are excellent with children and other household pets such as dogs and cats.

Due to the original purpose of the Miniature Schnauzer, which was barnyard patrol, this breed enjoys staying close to home where its loved ones reside.  They are equally happy to be jogging alongside its owner or curled up beside its owner in a chair, just as long as they are with you and your family.

Grooming

Miniature Schnauzers’ coat is non shedding and hypoallergenic and is easily maintained by routine brushing and regular grooming.

Sizes

Our Dogs and Puppies

Our original puppies/dogs were purchased from Colorado and Texas.   These two breeders specialize in brightly coloured and lush-coated Miniature Schnauzers.  They are both respectable breeders who follow careful breeding procedures, resulting in well-bred registered puppies.  All our breeding dogs are CKC and AKC registered.

Choosing Your Puppy

We will assist you in choosing your new puppy.  Your lifestyle, level of activity, size of family and residence location are all factors that will be discussed.   Our puppies range in size, energy level and temperment.

Local customers are welcome to choose their puppy early and arrange for bonding sessions with their new baby. 

Training

Our Miniature Schnauzers are easily trained, thriving on clear and routine commands.    Ensure that all family members read and understand the Puppy Training and Care handout that is provided at the point of sale.

In this handout, a proven and successful method of housetraining and puppy training “101” is clearly documented.  Our housetraining method discusses initial introduction to your home, feeding schedules, designated play area, sleeping arrangements, outside yard potty training, inside paper potty training, socialization and puppy behavioral training.
